SOLAR POWER

Mzansi Solar in conjunction with the manufacturers have 35 years of marketing,
research and development experience. This experience is used to analyse the results accumulated from various sanitation systems installed. These results are used for further development on a continuous basis.

This state-of-the-art product is filled with water once only and then never again.
Between 800-1300 litres of water will activate the system, which will operate
independently from thereon.

Both companies are committed to continuous research and development on this
product. The Department of Water Affairs and Forestry approved this aerobic and
anaerobic sanitation system.

It is an odourless sanitation system that provides a complete biological break down of human waste to a pathogen-free, non-toxic effluent. This robust system is filled with water only once and does not require regular maintenance, effluent removal or services (electricity, water).

Betta.Life.Light

The Betta.Life.Light takes advantage of the abundance of sun in Africa for communities living without the luxury of electricity. The product is designed for dwellings with an area of 50m² – 70m². The Betta.Life.Light utilizes energy efficient LED lighting elements combined with state of the art Solar Panels and Lead Crystal Batteries. The lights function up to 25hrs should 5 lights be switched on simultaneously with no available sunlight for whatever reason.

The product is easy to install (DIY) and carries a 12 month conditional guarantee. The standard system includes 1 x solar panel, 4 x ceiling mounted LED lights, 1 x LED reading lamp to facilitate studying, cell phone adaptors and cable. The standard system can be upgraded with an optional one, two or three LED lights and additional battery.

DC HOME SYSTEM

The DC Home System IS an easy-to-install, complete home power System which could be manipulated to meet various power needs. Operating from 12vDC, this home system can be installed, maintained and managed without a need for qualified electrical personnel. The inline fuse system together with the 2A (lights) 5A (TV) 15A (inverter)/1OA (Fridge) DC circuit breaker gives the necessary protection. The grading of this system is of utmost importance and one must ensure that the correct timers have been set together with the correct panel size for correct usage. Please consult your supplier.

SOLAR PUMPS

WATERMAX PUMPS are positive displacement submersible pumps manufactured from STAINLESS STEEL, HIGH QUALITY BONZE and anodised ALLUMINIUM. Spares are freely available. Pumps are serviceable, clean and non-polluting. Maintenance friendly. Has silent operation, therefore environment friendly. Can be moved from camp to camp as stock is rotated. Ideal for homes, farms, game and livestock watering. Installed below the water level in a borehole, lake, cistern or stream. Maintenance kits are available. Simplicity is the key feature. It hangs from HDPE (plastic) pipe.

All accessories are non-corrosive. Fitted with an equalising diaphragm to compensate for submergence pressures. Used extensively by world renowned game parks in Africa.

HEAT PUMPS

History of the heat pump

Heat pumps have been around for a long time and have been extensively and very successfully used in commercial applications for many years. Some of the hostels at Stellenbosch University have used heat pumps for producing hot water for more than 25 years. The recent dramatic increases in electricity prices, with more to come, have generated great interest in alternative energy sources and the increased sales of heat pumps worldwide has brought down prices and made heat pumps a very viable option for the domestic market.
Eskom have realized the saving potential of heat pumps and decided to provide rebates on ITS heat pumps.

How do heat pumps work?

A heat pump works in the same manner as an air conditioner but in a reverse configuration. That is, instead of removing heat from your home and expelling hot air outside it absorbs heat from the air outside and uses this energy to heat water. The modern domestic heat pump is a very efficient water heating device which uses a small amount of electricity to drive a compressor which forms the heart of the heat pump. The heat energy produced is as much as four times the electrical energy used to drive the compressor. This means that your electricity consumption for water heating can be divided by four (i.e. 75% saving).

The heat pump is not reliant on sunshine or direct radiation but extracts heat energy from the air at any time of the day or night and so is effectively a solar heater in a different form. Even in extremely cold conditions (-5C and lower) the heat pump can still provide a saving of more than 50%. In most cases in South Africa, where our daytime temperatures are relatively high, the efficiency is going to be at least 4 x that of an element heated water system. Even in the colder climates of Europe heat pumps are extensively used in domestic applications.

The heat pump looks similar to an air conditioner and can be installed either on the ground or on brackets on a wall. It is quiet and unobtrusive with a user friendly controller, has no greenhouse gas emissions and requires almost no maintenance.

Solar and LED Lights

LED lights are ideal for use with solar systems since they draw up to 80% less power than “normal” incandescent bulbs of similar brightness. They also have a longer lifespan, up to 100,000 hours in some cases.

In addition LED lights also generate very little heat and is ideal for use in fridges. This characteristic also helps to reduce heat build up in buildings due to lightin g and as a result reduces airconditioning needs. Furthermore, LED’s also generate considerably less UV light and therefor is less likely to cause retail goods to fade in colour.

LED’s used to have a reputation for being directional and not spreading out enough. This has been solved by fitting lenses and reflectors that spread the light beam out for a more even spread of the light. LED lights have also been colour adjusted and is now available in pure white, white, warm white and any other colour conceivable.

Solar Geysers

GENERGY

The low pressure gravity feed complete system consists of a vacuum glass tube collector, an insulated storage tank and feeder tank, and a flat roof stand. The evacuated glass tubes are filled with water and exposed to sun, thus heating up the water in the glass tubes.

As the specific gravity of cold water is heavier than hot water, the hot water in the glass tubes starts rising in the insulated water tank, and the cold water in the insulated water tank sinks into the glass tubes. As this cycle is repeated, water in the solar water heater gets heated. This process is known as Thermosyphon and is based on natural convection.

Thermosyphon solar water heater relies on the natural circulation of water between the collector and the tank or heat exchanger. As water in the vacuum tubes is heated it rises by convection into the tank, while cooler water in the tank flows down to the bottom of the vacuum tubes, causing circulation throughout the system. The storage tank is insulated so the water stays hot and can be used later in the day or even the following day. There is a provision for an electrical back‐up heater for periods when there is not sufficient sunlight.

KWIKSOL

The complete low presure system is ideal for low cost housing, where homes do not have an electric water heater to supply hot water, and in rural areas and homes where electricity is not readily available to heat water. It provides hot water to those who do not have the luxury of having hot water on tap.
